A ball float is an integral part of the internal gubbings of a toilet cistern. It determines and controls the amount of water allowed back into the cistern, to ensure there is no overflow.
A ball float needs to be used in conjunction with a ball valve. When the flush lever is pulled, the valve rises, allowing for the water to rush out of the cistern and into the toilet pan. When the water runs out and the handle returns to its original postion, the valve drops back into position, and the cistern refills.
