Reef – dimmable LED linear pendant light with ceramic foam lampshades

The warm white lighting emitted by the four lampshades of the Reef linear pendant light is soft and warm and perfectly stages the unusual surface structure of the lampshades. You can see the peaks and troughs of the sponge-like structure as the light shines on it. But what is this material that, with its interesting properties, lends the Reef linear pendant light its extravagant appearance? In order to create a special light effect, the lampshade has been made from ceramic foam – a material with a cell-like structure that lends it is unmistakeable character and makes is perfect for creating unique works of light art. The light has to make its arduous journey from the heart of the lampshade, through the coral-like branches to the outside so that it can be effectively dispersed across the surroundings. The brightness is certainly not lacking, however. The soft, scattered lighting created by the ceramic foam is combined with direct downlighting. Thus Reef fulfils the purpose suggested by its linear shape – to illuminate large, long dining tables.

The brushed aluminium frame, upon which the lampshades are arranged at regular intervals, does not distract from the look of the ceramic foam lampshades; instead it serves to highlight their elegance. And what may look fragile at first glance is in fact very durable. The lampshades are affixed to the aluminium frame by way of bayonet fasteners and can be easily removed and even washed in the dishwasher. The brightness of Reef can be adjusted using an external wall dimmer – either a leading or trailing edge dimmer. Thus, the light can be used to create a whole host of lighting scenarios with ease – from super bright to wake you up in the morning, to low, cosy, evening lighting.

Reef is a light source that boasts great technical features but its real highlight is and remains the unusual structure of the four lampshades and the unprecedented light effect that it creates.
