Swirl 2 designer pendant light with a handmade plastic lampshade The Danish designer Øivind Slaatto gets a lot of his inspiration from nature, especially from snails. The Swirl pendant light also seems to be based on a snail’s shell with its twists and turns. His motto is that the light, shape and function of a light should always form a coherent whole wherever possible. He has obviously lived up to his own motto with the pendant light. In true Scandinavian style, Swirl has a timeless and functional design that, despite its simplicity and functionality, is not lacking in sophistication. The plastic elements that make up the lampshade are white on the bottom and copper-coloured on the top. Most of these lights are still hand-made in Denmark, as some of the complicated techniques cannot be performed satisfactorily by machines.
